The awesome performance/capability of the standard Fords, but with CLASS

who's the over hyped graphic designer intern that put that damned red stripe on this? the totally messes up the side profile and look of this car. it draws the eye down at the sharp angle while the natural lines are a soft swoop moving down then up.. WTF.

The gentleman's muscle car as it was marketed.

me too surprisingly, I normally don't like them that large.
I wonder what they are and how they'd look on the Montego...

You haven't seen many 60's cars have you?

that's factory? hell no it aint! and yeah I have but they usually have much better stripes than this. or one those fancy pin stripe jobs. this is just awkward.

For the Eliminator it's factory. (I'm like the Mercury guy).
These cars are pretty ridiculously rare (unless it's a clone), they have a BOSS 429 in them. They are INSANE cars. I believe this stripe was only for 1969.

You're probably thinking of this (better) stripe package that was out in 1970:

Well no shit.. I don't... I mean... huh.. Yeah I still don't get it but ok I'll let it slide.

haha, damn right you will, it's one of the best pony cars to ever hit the road.

I like the '69's better than the '70's. The '70's have kind of a big "nose".

The over hyped graphic designer was Larry Shinoda - the creator of the Boss 302 mustang, and the Cougar Eliminator, as well as other projects from when he was working for GM and other manufacturers.
Ok, the stripes may not have been all him (who knows?), but the spoilers were his baby :-)

Ok Montego, I gotta correct you on a few things about the Cougar Eliminator...
There were actually NO Boss 429 Eliminators built. The 2 Cougar Boss 429 cars were not actually built with the Eliminator option, although they did race in "eliminator style" graphics.
For '69 and '70 the base engine for the Eliminator was a 351-4V, and you could option a Boss 302, and 428CJ, (as well as a 390-4V in '69 only). Base transmission was a 3-speed! But you could option an FMX auto (C6 with the 390 or 428CJ) or a 4-speed in either close or wide ratios.
While they are "rare", they are not THAT rare. They built 2250 in '69, and 2267 in '70. Google "Eliminators on the Market" if you are looking to buy one - they are out there.
Now lets talk colors... There were NO black Eliminators built in '69. They were only available in bright yellow, competition orange, white, and blue metallic, and you could choose white or black stripes. However, in 1970 you could special order an Eliminator in other colors, but only black stripes were produced that year. Ford built THREE Eliminators in black. All three had black interiors and black stripes. Below is a pic of one of them, as shown at the 2014 MCACN show. It has a 428SCJ Ram-Air engine, 4-speed, and 4.30 gears.

I like the stripes better but the look of the 69 better. Same reason lol

Now that was some serious Cougar schoolin'!
Great info. I knew about the optional engines transmissions, but certainly not the detail, I was referring to the top model engine.
Got any cool info on Montegos that I may not now yet?

Hi Montego, I have no clue about Montegos - except that you just don't see them anymore :-(
Yessir, the Boss 429 was listed as an option for the Cougar in '69 & '70, but only those 2 drag cars were built. There are a few known cases where fellahs tried to order their Eliminators with the Boss '9, but were told the option was not available. So it's a case of the promo material being out there, but the factory didn't follow through on it.

Well you can feel free to come see mine if you like! Haha.
That's one of the reasons why I bought it, that you don't see them anywhere. It's half the fun to me. My dad and I are both like that, we prefer to have something different. If you can build the whole car from a catalog - we don't want it (Looking at you typical Chevelle car show guy).
My car is a 1968 Mercury Montego MX with Cyclone Package. 302 V8 (originally 2barrel) with C4 Merc-O-Matic transmission. 2 Door Hardtop. I have the original window sticker and we 100% believe it has 60,000 original miles.
My Dad has a 1964 Dodge 330 Police Car. 100% restored to original (lights, sirens and radios).
